Mythical hair, mythical show
Alyssa Mulholland models the Troll look created by Sophia Nelson and Lacie Sleeper at the “Mythical Hair!” Hair Show 2022 at Concord High School.
The Concord Regional Technical Center Cosmetology program hosted a hair show Friday, May 6, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., in the Christa McAuliffe Auditorium here at Concord High School.
Cosmetology, like other CRTC programs, recently accepted new applicants, mostly juniors. Students in the two-year class learn about the study of cosmetology, and traditionally participate in this annual spring show.
This year’s theme was Mythical Hair.
What’s the most special thing about the hair show? Kimberly Hannon, director of the Cosmetology program, says, “The students working together, expressing their talents.”
CHS sophomore Sophia Nelson said preparing her look took a long time. “I don’t know the exact time, but we spent all day Friday working on it and I made the hairpiece at home for roughly seven hours. We wanted to make sure it had exquisite details that would stand out to the judges.”
Nelson and her partner, Lacie Sleeper, working with model Alyssa Mulholland, created the Troll look. “It was difficult in the aspect of getting our model to look like a troll rather than Mother Nature.”
The competition was judged by Traci Pettengill (Tooky Village Barber Shop), Matt Lambert (Empire Beauty School) and Lily Laura (Headspace Studios).
Hannon said Salem students swept the awards this year.
