Girls' fall sports update

Many people cringe at the thought of running, but members of the Concord High girls’ cross country team would disagree.
The athletes have won every meet so far, and plan to extend this streak in coming weeks.
Although the team has lost Jackie Bengtson to an ankle injury, the girls are staying strong and enjoying other aspects of competition.
First season runner Emily Gorham said one of her goals this season is to “make as many friendships on my team as I can.”
Hoping for a repeat of last year’s success, Gorham and her teammates are heading strong into their Homecoming Day meet in Manchester.
Athletes have been working hard in girls’ soccer as well.
Defensive-midfielder Emily Proctor is proud of the team’s improved work ethic. Even though the team is currently 0-4 on the season, Proctor remains hopeful. Her goal for the team is simply, “To finish our chances.”
Luckily, squad members have suffered no permanent injuries so far and they’ve had good showings. Varsity played rival Exeter on September 10 and lost 0-3, but the girls played one of their best games against Exeter in history. Consensus us they can  turn around the season if they can continue to play at that level.
In varsity field hockey, the team currently has a record of 1-2 and lost Kaleigh Otto to a pre-season injury. The junior varsity team is faring a little better.
“We lost our first game, but since then we’ve had shutouts,” said Kat Jepson. The team has not lost anyone to injuries yet, and continues to play strong at Rollins Park.
Varsity volleyball hasn’t started out as strongly as in past years but players remain confident. Upcoming contests include matches against powerhouses Nashua and Merrimack.
“Merrimack is the team to beat,” said varsity coach and Commons B guidance counselor Jonathan Flower.
The girls hope to end their season by hosting the first round of playoffs.
