Runners and walkers helped the German American Partnership Program raise $1,400 at the GAPP Gallop 5k and 1 Mile held Saturday, April 12, near NHTI.
Funds will help fund overseas travel costs for Concord High School students participating in GAPP, which pairs American and German students for a series of exchange trips.
German students came to Concord to live with local families for a month last fall. Concord High students will head to Germany this summer.
The GAPP Gallop drew students, parents, siblings, Concord High faculty and alumni up to the NHTI campus as early as 8 a.m. Saturday. Participants paid $25 or $15 entry fees, depending on the distance walked or run, with all proceeds going to GAPP.
After the two races people enjoyed refreshments and a raffle of prizes and gift cards to further raise money for the program.
CHS student and GAPPer Hunter Archambault was happy about the fundraiser’s success but not about the race results.

“I could’ve done better. The race was fun and was great for the program but it was physically exhausting. It had to be longer than a 5k,” said Archambault.

Archambault will visit Wegberg, Germany, this summer and stay with the family of his German partner, Marc Eckers.
“It was for a good cause though, We all worked hard to get this place ready and it’s fantastic to see the positive results.”
Laura Ernst, head of the German program and a German teacher at Concord High and Rundlett Middle School, declared the event a huge success.
“We have a fantastic group of kids, parents and supporters. The Concord community was very generous with their donations of gift certificates and prizes for the raffle,” said Ernst.
“The fundraiser was really fun and successful, this is the first time we’ve done this and it might become a tradition.”
