Senior class president Kayla Taylor, Amber Ferrier and Joyce Nishimwe were on hand to help fellow students register to vote Thursday, June 8, 2023.

Some 48 Concord High School students registered to vote during a registration drive held Thursday, June 8, in the senior lounge.

“The representatives from the clerks’ offices of Concord and Deerfield were very impressed by the turnout, and I wanted to extend my thanks to all of you who helped spread the word and support this effort!” said social studies teacher Rebecca Tancrede, who oversaw student efforts to plan and carry out the drive.

U.S. citizens who are already eighteen — or will be eighteen by November — were eligible to register.

Tancrede reached out to CHS families via ParentSquare May 30, writing of the non-partisan registration drive, “We are excited to bring this opportunity to our community because registering to vote is the first step to becoming an active and engaged citizen. We are writing to inform you so you can support your student in taking this step.”

Students had to bring required identification materials to school in order to register. These included driver licenses, birth certificates, passports, naturalization documents, pay stubs, car registration documents and phone bills.
